We've had a close working relationship with the Hunter Boots company for well over ten years now and have seen many, many changes to both the Hunter Boots Company itself and to the wellington boots marketplace during the time that we have been selling the Hunter products.

During our early involvement the Hunter Boots company was owned by much larger organisations (usually associated with the rubber business) and had it's manufacturing unit based in Dumfries, Scotland. Over time the ownership has changed a number of times and Hunter have now expanded from their root "Country Wellington Boots" market for which they became popular, into the fashion market which obviously has a much broader consumer appeal. Hunter now have offices in London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland (Hunter's head office), as well as New York in the USA - in fact we occupy their old Dumfries premises and have a number of senior ex Hunter employees running our business from there.

The important fact about Hunter is simply that they continue to make the best wellington boots available and, though they've chosen to enter new markets and are now a global boot manufacturer and global brand, they've not forgotten their root customer base, and continue to manufacture high quality rubber wellington boots that match the challenges of the British weather! It is this that has upheld their brand reputation as the wellington boots market leader and the Hunter Boot continues to be simply "Outstanding in Every Field".

Our commitment to the Hunter Brand is total and accordingly we have been recognised by Hunter as an "Authorised Hunter Retail" outlet. We warehouse our Hunter stock of thousands of pairs of boots & accessories in our Burgess Hill, West Sussex warehouse, from which we dispatch Hunter products throughout the United Kingdom and mainland Europe (Euro € Zone).
In the early days, Hunter only produced the Hunter "Original" Boots, Hunter Classics (& the wider calf version called Galloways), Royal Hunters, Sovereign Hunters, Argyll Farming Boots, Fishing Waders and the Century Safety Boot Range. These various boots originally only came in "Original Green", Navy, Black, Dark Olive and Brown.

Over the years demand for the fishing waders diminished and they were dropped from Hunters range.

Hunter sold off the Century Safety Boot business (which includes the Century 4000 safety wellingtons & safety waders, the Firefighter 4000 fireman's boots and the Forester 3000 chainsaw protection wellingtons & waders) to Tigar Europe who now manufacture these boots in Europe to the same high standards as Hunter did before. In fact Century Safety share the old Hunter Dumfries building with us and we continue to actively promote and sell all of these Safety products as well as the other high quality Tigar range of wellingtons portrayed in their "Maniera" wellington boots range.

The first major enhancement of the Hunter range was the introduction of the "Young Hunter" boots for children, and these were a glowing success for us and we continue to sell thousands of these each year. Initially the children's Young Hunters only came in a limited number of kid's sizes, but nowadays they are available in a much larger size range from a child's UK 7 (EU 24) to a UK 5 (EU 38). The Hunters for children actually overlap the adult sizes (UK 3-5), but the kid's boots are much shorter and have a two reflective safety strips on the rear seam of the boots.

Next to occur was a vast increase in the available colours .... Red, Chocolate, Aubergine, Yellow, Fuchsia and Iris were added to the adult Hunter Originals boots range and the children's Young Hunter range. Pink and Powder Blue were also available across all ranges initially, but are now limited to the Young Hunter boots.

Different versions of the Hunter Original boots were next to come - as well as the adult's standard Originals with an anti-bacterial nylon lining, most colours now also offer a warm neoprene lined version and a version with a wider fitting adjustable calf. New brightly patterned Originals have also been made such as the Gardinia & Hoxton ranges.

Over time the Hunter Classic, Galloway, Royal Hunters & Sovereign Hunters and other less popular boots were all discontinued and replaced by the more modern, updated specification of the new Hunter Balmoral Range. Balmorals are really popular for field sports use or wherever the customer requires the improved grip of the Balmoral's multi-lugged commando style sole.

Hunter has introduced a host of useful accessories and boot care products and several new styles like the Carnaby Fashion Range, Festival Boot Range, Clogs, Short Boots and the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Gardening Boots Range. One product within the accessories range that has proven truly immensely popular are the Fleece Welly Socks that insert into all Hunter Original Boots and offer warmth and colourful style.

The Argyll farming and Bullseye Hood boots are the only range that has remained relatively unchanged over the years, save for the addition of a warmer neoprene lined version of the Argyll farmer's boots.

Hunter now announces additions to it's total range twice yearly (in the Spring & Autumn) in line with the fashion industry, and this sees the already enormous number of Hunter Boot styles continue to grow and grow every year!

If you are buying Hunter Boots simply because you like the colour or style, and aren't too worried about the fit (perhaps because you already have some), or you will only be an occasional user and won't put them to arduous use - Then you may as well start choosing your colour and style right now ...

BUT if your Hunter Boots are going to be more than just a "fashion statement", then it makes sense that you select the most appropriate boot sole for your needs - there's no sense keeping your feet dry if the sole doesn't allow the rest of you to avoid falling over into the mud! Hunter Boots have four basic boot sole styles ...

|
|
Hunter Original Boots have the traditional Hunter calendered outsoles which are the default for most Hunter Boots and are more than adequate for most wet / muddy conditions. The integral sole of the Hunter Original Boot is light in weight and is therefore favoured by anybody not liking heavy footwear. This style of sole is shared across all boots in the Hunter Original range, which include: Hunter Originals themselves in tall & short styles, the children's Young Hunters, patterned boots like the Hunter Gardinia & Hoxton, the Hunter / RHS (Royal Horticultural Society)range, the Carnaby Fashion range and all Hunter Clogs.

Whilst they share exactly the same tread pattern as the Hunter Original Adult's boots shown above, the Young Hunter Original Boots for Children only come in kid's sizes. These boots also have a pair of reflective safety strips on the rear seam and are much shorter than the adult Originals even though sizes UK 3 to UK 5 overlap the adult range. These are indeed simply "Hunter Originals in Miniature".

All boots in the Hunter Balmoral Range have a heavier multi-lugged tread on a moulded synthetic rubber sole, giving significantly improved grip in adverse conditions, making them suitable for tough going, rugged outdoor activities like field sports. The Hunter Balmoral Sovereign boots have a Vibram ® "Commando" style outsole (Vibram ® is generally acknowledged to be the industry leader in sole design). These Hunter Balmoral boots include the Balmoral Classic, the Balmoral Neoprene lined, the Balmoral Bamboo Carbon lined (it's high performance lining gives benefit of: odour reducing, "wicking" dispenses moisture away from skin & it's thermal properties improve blood circulation, helping to keep the foot warm), the neoprene / leather lined Balmoral Royal Hunter and the top of the range full leather lined Sovereign Hunter.

Hunter's ARGYLL Farmer's Boots have long been the firm favourite for Britain's farming community, since the traditional calendered natural rubber outsole offers significant grip in muddy conditions without any increased weight. Argyll's also have a generous foot / leg fitting to allow farmers to easily slip them on and off when moving from farmyard to farmhouse and back out again. The deep tread in the zig-zag sole pattern also assists to stop mud clinging to the sole and thus helps to diminish any fatigue associated with wearing wellington boots all day long. This style of sole is shared across all ARGYLL boots in the Hunter range, this includes: the Argyll Full Knee boots, the Argyll Short 3/4 height boots and the Argyll Ladies' wellingtons (which have a slightly slimmer fit & are slightly lighter in weight but without compromising any of the expected toughness).

Hunter's Bullseye Farmer's Boots are another long time favourite of Britain's farmers, offering a different tread pattern to the Argyll. Bullseye Hood wellington boots have similar dimensions to the Argyll Full Knee and are equally as efficient as the Argylls in the mud, so selection is more a matter of personal preference than functionality.

Each Hunter Boot style may have different calf styles and linings ...

Hunter Originals have three styles of calf:
1. The basic Hunter Originals (in all colours) and most of the Children's Young Hunter range come with a strap & buckle decoration on the boot outer top and an anti-bacterial nylon lining (the lining may be patterned on some colours). This style of strap and lining is also shared with all the colours in the Huntress ladies range which also have a wider calf circumference and a shorter height.
2. The adult's neoprene lined Hunter Originals (all colours) and the children's Young Hunter Neo boots also have the decorative Hunter strap & buckle but with a warm neoprene lining (lining is usually black in colour).
3. The adult's Hunter Adjustable Originals (all colours) have a waterproof calf gusset closed with the familiar Hunter strap & buckle - this allows for up to 7 cm of adjustment in the calf circumference. They also have an anti-bacterial nylon lining (lining may be patterned sometimes). Within our web stores, each of our product pages (at the page bottom) shows the calf circumference and inside boot height for each foot size - be sure to check these.

1. The Hunter Balmoral Classic boots come with an anti-bacterial nylon lining (the lining is usually black).
2. The neoprene lined Hunter Balmoral Neo boots have a warm neoprene lining (lining is usually red in colour).
3. The Hunter Balmoral Bamboo Carbon boots have a high performance "Bamboo Carbon" lining - this new technology is designed to be odour reducing, and has "wicking" properties to dispense moisture away from skin. The Bamboo Carbon lining also has excellent thermal properties which improve blood circulation and thus help to keep the feet warm
4. The Balmoral Royal Hunter boots have a neoprene lined foot area, with luxurious full grain leather lining in the leg, giving a combination of superb comfort and warmth.
5. Hunter's top of the range Balmoral Sovereign Hunter boots offer the ultimate luxury & come in brown or black - these sophisticated rubber wellingtons have a lining of luxurious full grain leather and a full length zip for ease of access.

We really do want you to get the very best fit possible from any Hunter or other wellington boots that you buy from us, however we are sure that you will understand that the size / style selection of wellington boots bought from this web site are entirely under your control and it is impossible for us to confirm that any wellington boots that you select will fit you well (But as you can see from our Exchanges / Returns Policy, we are happy to exchange any unused wellington boots that you have bought from us for a different size once you've paid for the re-delivery, so there is no reason for you to put up with any incorrectly fitting boots).

Because it makes commercial sense for both you and us to ensure that you get the correct size delivered first time, we do what we can on this web site to publish as much wellington boot sizing information as is possible. Once you've entered our web stores, the bottom of each Hunter Boots product web page shows both the UK & EU foot sizes that those boots are available in, along with calf sizes & boot height. There is also a dedicated web page showing all Hunter Boot styles and their calf circumference & inside boot height for each size made - see ... "the Hunter sizing table".

Not every style of Hunter boot is available in every foot size, so be sure to view the various sizes made for Men, Women and Children lower in this page.

All of the Hunter Wellington Boots that we sell are designed to match your usual shoe size, so if you usually take a size UK 7 shoe, then order a pair of size UK 7 boots. Only select a larger boot foot size if you are going to be wearing really thick socks. Note that Hunter do not make ½ sizes. Note also that Argyll and Bullseye farming boots are very generous in size, since they were designed to allow farmers to put them on & take them off easily when entering or leaving the farm house.

References to "Standard" & "Wide" fitting are referring to the CALF FITTING, NOT the foot width. However, Hunter boots specified as "Wide" fitting may be very slightly wider in the foot. Most of our Wellington Boots are "Unisex" styles and suitable for both Men & Women unless stated to the contrary.

If you need further assistance with selecting a pair of wellingtons that match the usage that you'll be putting them to, then be sure to view our page about selecting the correct boot style ...

For the very best possible fit, please be sure to measure the calf circumference of the person who will be wearing the Hunter boots and also check that the boot height will be suitable - refer to the appropriate Hunter size chart shown below ...
